What help and support can I get in the Music Industry in 2024?

Whatever area you want to work in within the music industry, there will be an organisation that offers support and advice. Below are a few of the key groups that you might want to look at, when looking at starting your career in the music industry Joining the Musicians Union is something that creatives have done for years, as they offer extremely valuable support and advice when you’re first starting out. If you are thinking about being an artist manager, the MMF are the organisation that you would seek to join. They represent the biggest community of music managers in the world, offering advice and support, while also running regular training sessions and panel events. AIM is the trade body that represents the UK’s independent music sector, and it’s members include record labels and associated music businesses, self-releasing artists and the next generation of entrepreneurs in music. They offer advice, support and publish many great reports and articles throughout the year.

PRS for Music and PPL

These two organisations are what we refer to as Collection Management Organisations CMO’s. Their main job is to collect money (royalties) for people that write and perform music. Even at the very early stages of an artist’s career, they can be generating revenue through their music being used and performed across a variety of places, such as audio and video.
