A day in the life of a music producer can vary, depending on what projects you’re working on, and whether you are based at home or at a studio. A more studio-based producer working with clients may approach their day something like this:
“I tend to try and fit in as many healthy routines as I can in the morning like running, a healthy breakfast, reading and meditating, before I head out to the studio for a session. I'll usually arrive there 45 minutes before my clients to ensure the studio is in a fit state and to get around to any cleaning chores or maintenance that might need looking at. The last thing I want is to run into an issue during a session.
I'll usually work for around 8-10 hours with a short break in the middle. At the end of the day, I'd usually just head home, review a mix or two, and perhaps supplement my knowledge a little with a music production video to keep me inspired and curious.”
For a producer working from home on a range of projects, a day may include the following:
1. Maintaining your practice routine, either playing an instrument, or practising DAW/ sound design skills
2. Working on musical projects
3. Keeping connections with other music professionals
4. Maintaining the business side (contracts, tax returns etc.)
