Point Blank Los Angeles offers a range of services to our students. These services are designed to make their experience studying at Point Blank Los Angeles seamless, and ensure the wellbeing and educational outcomes we strive to deliver.

Admissions Advising

If you’re a prospective student, you can contact an Admissions Advisor to discuss your educational and professional goals at any time and receive personalized advisement on which Point Blank programs are the best fit for you. We offer excellent admissions advisement via phone, email, virtual video conferencing over Zoom, at our frequent Open House events, and through personalized campus tours and track feedback sessions. Academic Advising

If you’re a current or continuing student, we can help you navigate your program or determine appropriate future coursework, to ensure you have the greatest opportunity for academic and musical success throughout your time at Point Blank. The 1-2-1 sessions included with your program also serve a personalized advisement sessions, held directly with your instructor, to ensure you’re getting the most out of your classes, creating great music, and receiving mentorship towards both program completion and attaining your personal, artistic, and professional goals in music. Career & Employability Advising

If you’re a current Point Blank student nearing graduation, we provide excellent career and employability sessions, which include personalized resume and cover letter review, professional writing tips, job search strategies, and a complete Careers and Employability module within our Virtual Learning Environment. Guest Masterclasses

As added value to support our students, Point Blank frequently hosts exclusive guest masterclass events with brilliant outside presenters, who have included luminaries like Yeti Beats (Doja Cat), Laura Escude (Jay Z), Daddy Kev (Low End Theory), Mark de Clive-Lowe, Thavius Beck, and Grammy-winning mastering engineer John Greenham (Billie Eilish). These events are great opportunities to network with and learn directly from major players in the music industry.

 

A&R Advising

Point Blank Recordings’ in-house A&R advisor, Kwame Kwaten, has had a #1 hit on the dance charts with his band D Influence, been signed to Atlantic Records, been shortlisted for a Mercury Prize, supported the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, and James Brown, and managed the successful Laura Mvula and Shola Ama. Kwame brings his depth of musical knowledge and experience to Point Blank’s record label and to our students. As a student at Point Blank you are able to benefit from exclusive 1-2-1 A&R Advisement and Track Feedback Sessions and with Kwame, which may include topics such as:

  • Looking at the mistakes and turning them into positives
  • Reassessing and getting rid of what isn't working in your project
  • Honest, direct assessment, to help get your career off the ground and make correct decisions to support you
  • Finding new producers, or working with you to better your productions or finished masters
  • Looking at the marketing of the project so far — what works and what doesn't?
  • Finding good promo people or teams that suit your project
  • Setting realistic deadlines for your project
  • Advice on improving your approach to music, from start to finish

 

Virtual Learning Environment

Our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is where all Point Blank students have access to an abundance of information. The VLE houses all of your coursework and class content, downloadable tracks and project sessions, software essentials, academic writing support, music theory fundamentals, careers and employability, and more. The VLE is the one-stop-shop containing all the essential information and resources necessary to succeed in your Point Blank program.

 

PBLA After Hours (Student Club)

Point Blank encourages its students to collaborate on artistic projects, recording sessions, and network outside of class time. To that end, our students have formed PBLA After Hours, a student group that meets frequently each term to hold jam sessions, collaborate on tracks, attend live performances, and more. To get involved, contact a Point Blank administrator.

 

Quarterly Student Orientation

Each term, on the Friday before the first day of instruction, Point Blank holds a Student Orientation session which is required for all new students, and highly recommended for all continuing students. Important topics include Point Blank’s teaching methodology, assignments and grading, class scheduling, accessing your 1-2-1 sessions, using our Virtual Learning Environment, and more. Once enrolled, a Point Blank administrator will contact you with information on how to attend Student Orientation.

 

Alumni Networking

By completing a program with Point Blank, you become part of the Point Blank global network of alumni, which includes famous artists like Nicole Moudaber, Claude VonStroke, Paula Fairfield, Leona Lewis, and many more. If you choose to, you can remain part of the Point Blank alumni network after graduation, and receive frequent information and continued benefits such as partner discounts and industry opportunities.

 

Students with Disabilities or Health Issues

Point Blank administrators can also help students with disabilities request reasonable accommodations in order to support their learning, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. It is our goal to remove all possible obstacles to your learning, and therefore we aim to ensure that all appropriate and reasonable adjustments recommended by your medical professional are put in place to support you. It is highly recommended that any incoming student who wishes to notify us about any disability, long-term condition, or health issue does so at least 30 days prior to their program start date by submitting our Request for Accommodation Form directly to the Music School Manager.

Our staff are also here to help if you are struggling with student life due to personal, emotional, or mental health issues. They can provide help and guidance with, for example, finding support services external to the school or, if appropriate, how to pause your studies. We understand that there can be many different pressures that may affect you during your educational program, therefore it is extremely important to us that you feel supported during your studies at Point Blank. If you feel stressed, depressed, lonely, or are dealing with more long-term issues, please get in touch a Point Blank administrator to determine how we can best help you during your studies with us.

 

Health & Safety Information

At Point Blank, supporting the health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. To this end, best practices for health and safety are found within all Point Blank coursework as applicable, and are shared with students prior to enrollment and through Student Orientation in the form of the Point Blank Music School Catalog, which contains health, safety, and hygiene guidelines and tips as well as contact information for various recommended health professionals and organizations. We also distribute excellent health and safety resources developed by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) which include the following highly-recommended materials, which are required reading for all Point Blank students, faculty, and administrators, as applicable:
